Is it safe to come to the air show?
Safety is always a primary concern at air shows. The 167th Airlift Wing is working very closely with Federal, State, and local authorities to ensure safety. The 167th Airlift Wing follows and enforces all security rules and regulations as required. You will notice extra uniformed security at the air show, both military and civilian.

What time do the gates open?
Gates will open at 9am and the show is scheduled to end at 4pm.  Keep checking back for updates.

Do I need an ID?
A photo ID may be required.

Is parking available?
Yes. Due to limited parking space at the 167th Airlift Wing, parking will be available outside of the gates and a shuttle service will be provided to and from the parking areas.

Is parking on base available?
No. Parking space on the base is limited and will be reserved for performers, vendors, and VIPs.  They will be required to have a designated pass in their vehicles.

Can we watch the Air Show in the parking lots?
No, tailgating parties are not allowed in the parking areas. No open fires or grills.

Will there be buses from the parking areas to the flight line?
No, buses will drop passengers off on designated bus stops on base and you will need to walk to the flight line.

Will there be food and drinks available?
Yes. A variety of food and beverages will be available.

Will there be specific parking for the handicapped?
Yes, there will be designated handicapped parking with handicap accessible shuttle services provided.

Can arrangements be made for handicap parking or drop-off/pickup close to a seating area?
Unfortunately, foot traffic and aircraft proximity prevent the availability of shuttling directly to the seating area.

Is there an admission?
No. There is no admission to enter the Thunder Over the Blue Ridge Open House and Air Show however, a $10 per person donation to benefit the United Way of the Eastern Panhandle is encouraged.

What attire should I consider?
Wear comfortable clothing and shoes, sunscreen and sunglasses. You may also want to consider bringing some form of hearing protection. Come prepared to be in the elements.

Can I bring folding chairs?
Yes. We encourage you to bring chairs. Get comfortable and enjoy the show.

Are pets allowed?
Please, no pets. Service animals are permitted.

Can I bring a bike or skateboard?
No. We want to keep the show area safe so bicycles, skateboards, roller blades, and wheelies will not be permitted.

What are the security policies?
Due to heightened security requirements, containers such as backpacks and coolers are will be prohibited on the airfield. Some exceptions will be made for items such as diaper bags, purses and folding lawn chairs, but visitors must submit them to security personnel for an inspection. Weapons are strictly prohibited. Weapons include, but are not limited to, firearms, blades (including pocket knives, leathermans), and blunt objects. Patrons with firearms will be asked to leave the installation or their weapons will be confiscated and will not be returned.

If I cannot bring something into the air show, can I go out to my car during the show?
Yes. Since the show has no admission fee, you may leave and re-enter as you desire. Anyone re-entering will have to go through security checkpoints again.

Is smoking allowed?
Smoking will be permitted in designated areas only. Designated areas will be clearly marked.

Will restroom facilities be easily accessible?
Yes. Portable restrooms will be located throughout the air show grounds.

Can I bring a fanny pack?

Small fanny packs are permitted, subject to approval by gate security personnel and a hand-search at the security checkpoint.

Can I bring a purse?
Small purses are permitted, subject to approval by gate security personnel and a hand-search at the security checkpoint. Large purses (tote bag type) are not permitted.

Can I bring my camera/video camera/cell phone?
Yes. There are no security restrictions on these items. However, large camera bags are not permitted (credentialed media excluded). Bring only necessary camera equipment, leaving extra attachments at home.

Can I take pictures or get autographs?
Yes. Many of the performers make themselves available for autographs and pictures during the show.

Can I bring water, drinks and/or food?
We will not turn away anyone carrying drinks or food in their hands, but backpacks and coolers with these items will not be permitted on the airfield. All items brought in are subject to approval by gate security personnel and a hand-search at the security checkpoint.

I have small children. Can I bring a stroller/diaper bag/clothes change/etc.?
Yes. Strollers will be hand-searched at the security checkpoint. Please bring only necessary items in a small diaper bag, subject to hand-search at the security checkpoint. You can return to your vehicle during the show to get extra clothes, restock diaper items, etc.
